ELLIOT PAGE OPENS UP ABOUT TRANSITIONING – (03/17/2021)

Elliot Page sat down with Time Magazine to discuss his transgender journey. The Umbrella Academy star revealed that he had surgery to remove his breast tissue, with the goal of having a more masculine appearance.

He said: “It has completely transformed my life,” adding that while surgery doesn’t define being trans, it gave him the freedom to escape the “total hell” that was puberty.

Page said that he first felt like “a boy” at age 9 when he was allowed to cut his hair short.  “I wanted to be a boy. I would ask my mom if I could be someday.”

Page came out as transgender in December. His wife Emma Portner said she was “so proud” of Page at the time, but the pair have since split. Page filed for divorce in January, and said they split in summer. “We’ve remained close friends,” Page said.

He said of the public reaction: “What I was anticipating was a lot of support and love and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia. That’s essentially what happened.”

His name trended on Twitter in more than 20 countries after the announcement, Time noted. He gained more than 400,000 new followers on Instagram on that day alone.

Page wants to pay it forward for trans youth. He said: “There were no examples,” Page said of growing up in Halifax in the 1990s. There are many queer people who have felt “that how they feel deep inside isn’t a real thing because they never saw it reflected back to them.”

Other celebs who have transitioned include Alexis Arquette, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, Laverne Cox and Caitlyn Jenner

SURPRISES, SNUBS, FIRSTS AMONG OSCAR NOMINATIONS – (03/16/2021)

“Mank” leads the field of Oscar nominations, with 10 nods, including best picture, as well as for its stars Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried and its director David Fincher.

Netflix dominated the nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards, grabbing 35.

Six films earned six nominations — a group that includes “The Father,” “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Minari,” “Nomadland,” “Sound of Metal” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” All of these films were nominated for best picture along with “Promising Young Woman.”

DIVERSITY

After years of criticism for its lack of diversity, for the first time, performers of color comprise the majority in both actor categories, with Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”), Chadwick Boseman (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”) and Steven Yeun (“Minari”) in the lead race and “One Night in Miami” star Leslie Odom Jr. competing with “Judas and the Black Messiah duo Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield in supporting. Yeun is the first Asian American nominee, and Christina Oh is the first Asian American nominee to receive a nod for best picture with “Minari.”

Chloe Zhao is the first woman of color ever nominated as best director for “Nomadland.” Viola Davis became the most nominated Black actress in Oscar history for “Ma Rainey’s.”

Boseman received his first-ever Oscar nom for “Ma Rainey’s” after his death.

SNUBS, SURPRISES

Regina King was overlooked for “One Night in Miami,” and she would have been the first Black woman nominated as director.

“Ma Rainey” missed out on a best picture nom.

Jodie Foster and Jared Leto were also overlooked for their roles in “The Mauritanian” and “The Little Things.”

Paul Raci was overlooked at the SAG and Golden Globes, but he was nominated for his role in “Sound of Metal” as best supporting actor.

Because of the ongoing pandemic, the Academy Awards will take place April 25 at downtown Los Angeles’ Union Station and Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, and air live on ABC.

PRINCE WILLIAM BREAKS SILENCE, SAYS ROYAL FAMILY IS NOT RACIST – (03/12/2021)

Prince William has spoken out for the first time after his brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey aired. In the interview, the pair shared heart-wrenching stories of depression, Meghan’s suicidal thoughts and both of their despair over a senior royal family member expressing concern over the darkness of their children’s skin.

On a Thursday visit to a London school, the 38-year-old said he has not spoken to Harry since the interview aired Sunday on CBS, but that he planned to. During the interview, Harry spoke highly of William, but admitted they were distant.

When asked about the racism allegations, William said: “We’re very much not a racist family.” In a public statement after the interview, Queen Elizabeth said that the “issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning,” but politely said that “recollections may vary” rather than denying them.

According to Page Six, the pair have actually recently opened lines of communication recently, though it may only be through text.

Twitter was not convinced. Wrote one critic: “So Prince william can speak out to defend the royal family by saying “we’re not a racist family” but he can’t speak out in defence of the ONE member of the family actually subjected to racism?”

Khloe Kardashian has been up front about wanting to grow her family with Tristan Thompson. The pair share True, who will turn 3 next month.

An insider told People: “Khloe is definitely frustrated at times. She really, really wants another baby and finds it hard to be patient. But she is trying to stay positive. She believes and hopes that it will happen this year.”

She recently told Sarah Hyland on her podcast that the pandemic messed things up. “… If you do need assistance in fertility, it’s much more challenging during COVID,” she said. “They say, ‘If you wanna make God laugh, tell him your plans.’ So the one time I’m actually really trying to plan, God is saying, ‘Uh uh, you can’t make your plans like this!’ ”

MEGHAN MARKLE’S FRIEND HAS RECEIPTS AS SHE LAUNCHES FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST PIERS MORGAN – (03/11/2021)

Meghan Markle formally complained to UK broadcaster ITV after Piers Morgan slammed her on the air. The Good Morning Britain host has since left the show permanently after storming off the set over criticism of his behavior.

The UK’s Office of Communication received more than 41,000 complaints in one day over his behavior, prompting a formal probe into whether his behavior violated broadcasting codes.

Meghan reportedly was not personally affronted by the attack, but is concerned over the mental health of viewers.

After the broadcast, ITV released a statement saying: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

Piers repeatedly expressed doubts after Meghan told Oprah Winfrey in a bombshell interview that she had suicidal thoughts.

RECEIPTS

Meghan’s pal Janina Gavankar, meanwhile, backs up her story. She said of the Queen’s formal statement in response to the interview: “I’m so thankful that they are finally acknowledging the experience, but on the other side, I know that the family and staff were well aware of the extent of it. And though their recollections may vary, ours don’t because we lived through it with them. And there are many emails and texts to support that.”

QUEEN

Queen Elizabeth is sticking to her word and reportedly quizzing senior royals about claims Meghan and Prince Harry made. The pair claimed in the interview that members of the royal family shared concerns that their son Archie’s skin would be dark. Oprah later said that Harry told her off-camera that it wasn’t the Queen, or her husband Prince Philip, who made those comments.

SHOULD CHRIS HARRISON RETURN TO ‘THE BACHELOR’? – (03/11/2021)

After multiple missteps, should Chris Harrison return as host of The Bachelor? Emmanuel Acho, who took over an upcoming Bachelor special in the wake of his departure following Harrison’s defense of Rachael Kirkconnell, has some thoughts.

Acho told Good Morning America: [“Is it in the best interest of Chris Harrison? Is it in the best interest of the show for them to continue to mutually move forward? This is the most uncomfortable conversation in the history of the Bachelor franchise because it’s not just about relationships, but now it’s about race.”]

“My mission for After the Final Rose is very, very, very simple,” he continued. “Allow my white brothers and sisters who have watched the show and fell in love with Matt’s story to understand that Matt’s love story and his journey is love is different than other journeys of love, particularly because of his complexion and his skin color.”

He also addressed resurfaced photos of Kirkconnell, who attended an antebellum-themed party. He said the photos were “racially insensitive and racially ignorant,” adding, “Racial insensitivity and racial ignorance can play itself out as racism. But it doesn’t necessarily classify someone as racist.

The Bachelor: After the Final Rose special is set to air on March 15 and will focus on the most recent season of The Bachelor, which featured Matt James, the first Black Bachelor.

CARDI B DELETES TWITTER AFTER FANS COMPLAIN ABOUT HER RELEASING A NEW DOLL – (03/08/2021)

Cardi B decided to delete her Twitter after receiving comments from fans who were upset that she decided to release a new doll instead of new music. After one fan wrote, “drop the fu**ing album,” Cardi responded, “SUCK MY D*CK.”

She later said in a Twitter voice note, “Yo, I really hate when people start acting like brats and start really p*ssing me off. I don’t like that s**t.  I wanna make it very clear. After I dropped I said, I’m gonna take my time. I gotta finish my album. If I say I’m gonna finish my album, it doesn’t mean that I’m gonna drop in March, it doesn’t mean that I’m gonna drop in April. Let me do this f**king s**t because everybody expect me to f**king fail, so when I drop my album, I want it to be immaculate with everything great.”

She continued, “However, don’t every single time that I f**king drop something, ya’ll discourage me with the ‘I thought you was gonna drop the album, I though you was gonna drop a song.’ My mans, I just dropped a song three f**king weeks ago. How ya’ll expect me to be a great business woman, how ya’ll expect me to make it to Forbes if I’m not doing other business ventures besides music? You should learn from JAY-Z. You don’t just become a billionaire with f**king making music.”

She added, “Let me do my s**t. Stop harassing me for f**king music. I just dropped something. And I don’t like to drop bulls**t because if it flops, then what? Cardi is a flop, Cardi is a flop, and ya’ll gonna be mad arguing on Twitter. So stop. That s**t is f**king annoying. Deada**.”

She then deleted her Twitter.

MEGHAN MARKLE AND PRINCE HARRY TELL ALL – (03/08/2021)

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a much-anticipated, much-teased interview at 8 p.m. on CBS. The interview proved to be as filled with drama as many expected, touching on the racist reception Meghan got inside and outside the Palace, and how the constant criticism and harassment challenged both Meghan and Harry’s mental health and ultimately forced them to step away from royal life.

As many royal watchers know, Harry and Meghan announced on Instagram that they were stepping down from their royal roles in January of 2020. Under terms brokered by the palace, the couple had to step back from royal duties, drop their His and Her Royal Highness titles and would no longer receive funds for royal duties.

Among the wildest revelations from the interview: Meghan had to learn how to curtsy five minutes before meeting the Queen; Kate Middleton made Meghan cry the week before their wedding, as opposed to the opposite which was widely reported; Meghan and Harry got married in secret before their televised wedding; Meghan says the Queen has always been “warm” to her; Royals were worried about how dark her and Harry’s son Archie would be; a serious mental health crisis and the lack of Royal support led to them leaving; Meghan and Harry are happy and living a “really fulfilling” life in California; they are having a girl this summer, their second child; Harry and Meghan told the Queen and his father, Prince Charles, that they were leaving their senior royal roles before they announced it in public.

GOING IN

Going into the momentous interview, the Palace adhered to its standard protocol of not commenting on speculation surrounding royals. They did, however, announce that they were investigating allegations that Meghan bullied members of her staff. The claims were made anonymously in a British newspaper; the Sussexes said, through a spokesperson, that the report was “a calculated smear campaign” in response to their expected revelations.

QUEEN’S PERSPECTIVE

Queen Elizabeth, 94, attempted to share a softer side of the royal family ahead of the interview. Hours before their talk, she paid tribute to the heroes who came together in response to COVID-19. “Over the coming week, as we celebrate the friendship, spirit of unity and achievements of the Commonwealth, we have an opportunity to reflect on a time like no other,” the Queen said at the start of her speech. “The testing times experienced by so many have led to a deeper appreciation of the mutual support and spiritual sustenance we enjoy by being connected to others.”

The Queen also expressed hope that “we shall maintain this renewed sense of closeness and community.”

“Looking forward, relationships with others across the Commonwealth will remain important, as we strive to deliver a common future that is sustainable and more secure, so that the nationals and neighborhoods in which we live, wherever they are located, become healthier and happier places for all,” she said.
