DID KANYE WEST DROP OUT OF THE 2020 PRESIDENTIAL RACE? – (07/16/2020)
It looks like Kanye West may not have dropped out of the 2020 presidential race. According to TMZ, an individual named Andre Bodiford filed Form 1 “Statement of Organization” with the Federal Election Commission on yesterday (July 15th), which established “a principal campaign committee” for West.
The document listed the music and fashion as the BDY (Birthday) Party candidate for November’s election, and named Bodiford as the campaign Custodian of Records and Treasurer. Later, the Oklahoma State Election board confirmed that West had secured a spot on the state’s general election ballot.
A rep for West told People that he had submitted a “Statement of Candidacy” and paid the $35,000 filing fee to run as an independent candidate.
KANYE’S TWITTER ACCOUNT HACKED
In other news, Kanye’s Twitter account was hacked yesterday afternoon (July 15th) in what appears to be a cryptocurrency scam. Other hgh profile Twitter users like Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Barack Obama and Elon Musk‘s Twitter accounts were hacked as well.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the accounts all tweeted similar messages offering to “give back to the community” in what appeared to be a cryptocurrency scam. They later shared a Bitcoin wallet address and told Twitter users that they would double any amount sent in.
Twitter Support later posted that it was aware of the security incident, saying, “We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly.”
SHAWN MENDES PARTNERS WITH GLOBAL CITIZEN FOR $250,000 SCHOLARSHIP FUND – (07/16/2020)
Shawn Mendes has teamed up with Global Citizen to launch a pioneering program aimed specifically at teaching leadership skills to high school graduates worldwide.
Called the Global Citizen Academy, grads across the globe will be granted access to the Minerva Project – a virtual platform specializing in educational and innovative programs. The Academy will also offer virtual lesson plans aimed at bolstering future leaders to help them build “powerful and practical skills for a lifetime of social impact.”
The course, which includes lectures from global leaders, runs from early September to mid-December. The deadline to apply is July 30th.
The singer launched the Shawn Mendes Foundation Scholarship, which will offer up to $250,000 in grants to allow those who would otherwise find the tuition cost-prohibitive.

HALSEY TO DELIVER ONE-OFF ACOUSTIC YOUTUBE PERFORMANCE FOR CHARITY – (07/16/2020)
Halsey will deliver an exclusive acoustic performance on her YouTube page today.
The singer teamed up with Magnum Ice Cream for a #TrueToPleasure performance to benefit GLSEN, an organization that provides judgment-free LGBTQ-inclusive education.
The mini-concert will encourage donations to GLSEN, to which Magnum Ice Cream has already pledged $50,000.
Halsey announced last week that she was partnering with Magnum for their #TrueToPleasure campaign, which encourages people to embrace their individuality.
“I’ll be sharing my biggest pleasure with you all, playing music,” she shared to her followers. “This performance will only be available for 30mins, so don’t miss it!”

BEYONCE TEAMS UP WITH NAACP: Beyonce’s BeyGOOD’s Black Business Impact Fund is partnering with the NAACP to assist Black-owned businesses impact by COVID-19. Grants of $10,000 will be offered. “Over the last couple of months, the pandemic and outpours for justice throughout the Black community and across the country has been felt in every imaginable area of our lives, including in how our local businesses continue to operate,” an official statement reads, in part. “The challenges of Black business owners navigating in the climate cannot be understated, as the effects of uprisings across the nation have led to many businesses being placed in dire straits due to damages and other small business needs.” (ET)
