TAYLOR SWIFT CELEBRATES NATIONAL CAT DAY; ‘SHAKE IT OFF’ LAWSUIT REVIVED – (10/30/2019)

Tuesday was National Cat Day, and Taylor Swift commemorated the special moment with an Instagram post.

The black and white photo shows her from behind, holding one of her fur babies – either Meredith or Olivia – over her shoulder.

“Hug your cat today. Or don’t, if your cat hates hugs. But anyway. Happy #NationalCatDay from me, Olivia, Meredith, and Benjamin,” reads the caption.

Taylor acquired Benjamin this year, after he made his acting debut on the set of her video for “ME!” Olivia and Meredith also appeared in that video, but they’d previously made their big-screen debut in 2018, when they were pictured on a t-shirt worn by Ryan Reynolds in the movie Deadpool 2.

Later this year, Taylor will take her feline obsession to the next level by becoming a kitty in the movie musical Cats.

Meanwhile, Taylor’s “Shake It Off” song is headed back to court after being dismissed last year. The lawsuit was filed by songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler against Taylor and the song was revived by a three-judge panel from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and will be sent back to a U.S. District Court.

Hall and Butler claim that Taylor lifted lyrics from their song, “Playas Gon’ Play” for 3LW for her own song. The first case was dismissed in February 2018. Sean Hall shared in a statement about the revival, “We are happy the court unanimously sided with us…This case is giving voice to all of those creatives who can’t afford to stand up and protect their work in the face of well-financed Goliaths.”

A rep for Taylor responded, saying, “Mr. Hall is incorrect, the court did not unanimously side in their favor, the court sent the case back to the lower court for further determination. These men are not the originators, or creators, of the common phrases ‘Players’ or ‘Haters’ or combinations of them. They did not invent these common phrases nor are they the first to use them in a song. We are confident the true writers of ‘Shake It Off’ will prevail again. Their claim is not a crusade for all creatives, it is a crusade for Mr. Hall’s bank account.”

TWITTER FREAKS OUT AS ‘GOT’ PREQUEL CANCELED – (10/30/2019)

The Naomi Watts-led Game of Thrones prequel project set to land on HBO is not moving forward. Jane Goodman was directing the project, which shot a pilot over the summer. The story was set to follow the  “Age of Heroes” and the first ever battle between man and White Walker, thousands of years before the wars and dragons of Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington’s time.

Goldman reportedly emailed the cast to share the news. She and the GOT writer George R. R. Martin penned the project, which reportedly focused on issues of race, power and intrigue.

The project was among several GOT spinoff series greenlit by HBO. News recently broke that the network is nearing a deal to produce a second pilot based on GOT, from Martin and Ryan J. Condal. This one will reportedly focus on the reign of Targaryen kings shortly before the events of the blockbuster Emmy-winning series.

Among the reactions on Twitter were:

“It’s time we all pitch in and give Naomi Watts three good projects in a row”

“Naomi Watts just like CANNOT pick the right project”

“Naomi Watts is cursed”

Watts’ headlining and much-buzzed about project Gypsy was also famously canceled by Netflix in 2017.
